Open Day

Saturday 22nd of February 2025, 10am – 3pm

Join the Glenmidge Burn Project at their Open Day on Saturday 22nd of February. There will be a morning of activities on the project land before returning to Keir Village Hall for lunch and presentations from trustees and partner organisations. This event is open to everyone of all ages! See the full program below.

09.30am community bus pick up at the Buccleuch Hotel, Thornhill.

09.45am pick up at Penpont Cross.

10.15am Bus pick up from Keir Village Hall. 

10.30am Gather at Glenhead, Glenmidge, DG2 0TR before heading down to part of the project area, Midge Field.

10.45am – 12.30pm Activities

Attendees will have the choice between four activities 

10.45am – 11.30am

Photography in Glenmidge: Join Dave as he talks through fixed point photography and his process of carrying out this monitoring technique on the land. 

The Great Earthworm Count: Michael will lead the group through earthworm surveying and explains their importance in soils. 

11.45am – 12.30pm

Winter Tree ID: Antoine will teach the group how to identify trees when they are not in leaf as during the winter. 

Freshwater Invertebrates: Michael and others will use the kick sampling technique in the burn to identify invertebrates. The group will learn about the importance of surveys such as this.

Return via bus to Keir Village Hall in time for lunch at 1pm.

2.30pm Partner organisation presentations

We anticipate a 3.00pm finish. The bus will return attendees to Penpont and Thornhill accordingly.

You are welcome to join us for a part of the day if you are unable to attend for all of it. 

We will also be hosting a photography competition on the day. Bring your phone or camera and may the best picture win! Further details on the day. 

Please note: There is very little parking in Glenmidge so attendees are encouraged to meet at Thornhill, Penpont or Keir Mill and make use of the community bus.

This event is free to attend but as a charity, we are grateful for any and all donations and will be accepting them on the day.
